Winter to Pre Spawn Bass Fishing – Tips and Techniques

Winter bass fishing in Texas can be like late spring bass fishing in other states. In this video, we will be walking through bass fishing tips and techniques for winter and pre spawn fishing. The areas that we are fishing will typically hold bass through the winter and all the way into the pre spawn time. I’m fishing with LunkersTV today on the first day on the new year in 2017. This was a hot water lake and with warm afternoon air temps, the water is hovering in the mid 60’s. This lake has a lot of shallow grass and standing timber similar to lake fork. We are starting out in the first 1/4 of the creek and then working our way half way back into the creeks. The largemouth bass are sitting on small drop-offs in 4-8 feet of water. Many of the bass are suspended and on the move feeding on shad while they are moving through the creek channel. Bass will use these creek channels as highways to migrate to their spawning flats. We are fishing the trees, grass and drop-offs leading into the spawning areas that are made up of flats with hard bottom. In this video I will show how to fish a jig for these bass along with a jerkbait in similar areas. These are also good areas to throw plastic worms on wacky rigs and texas rigs for these largemouth bass. When the sun came out, many of the male largemouth bass that we were catching stopped feeding and started moving around the creek channels. The best area that we fished we where the the creeks started to flatten out, leaving the bass on the stacked up on the edge of the flat where they were feeding. They will stay in areas like this for weeks until the water becomes warm enough to move onto the flat and start spawning.
